Flores loses to highscorer Patacchia in round 3!
After showing some amazing surfing in his opening heat of the Rip Curl Pro Search WCT Chile last week, Jérémy Flores (Fra) had to accept the domination of Fredrick Patacchia (Haw) in their round 3 match-up. In solid 6 to 8 ft waves, the two youngmen paddled out for their much anticipated duel, a massive crowd waiting for some great action.
Patacchia was the first to find an efficient ride when he got a 6 ft barrel to open the battle and secure a 7.5 pointer. Looking for the best potential waves, Flores took his time before answering the hawaiian until he found a first scorer to get on with the fight. Using priority, Patacchia managed to keep advantage and as one minute remaind, forced Jérémy to go for an average wave. Needing a 6+ pointer, Europe’s leading surfer went on for a beautiful styled layback under the barreling lip, but couldn’t get deep enough to frighten his opponent.
In the last minute, Patacchia found the bomb of the heat as he paddled into a massive 8 ft wall, and disappeared deep inside the tube, before exiting the chilean pipeline raising his fist in the air. With the most spectacular ride of the event, he was rewarded with the perfect 10 pts mark, first one of this fourth stop on the Foster’s ASP World Tour, securing a 17.5 total to advance into round 4.
