With surfing legend Joel Parkinson making quite an impression in the Billabong Tahiti Pro competition, why not step into a pair of Kustom designed by the man himself.
You might not have the talent like Parko to surf the quarterfinals in Teahupoo but you can certainly step into the shoe of the man who can!
In November 2006, Kustom collaborated with the world championship surfer Joel Parkinson to develop the aptly named ‘Parko’ shoe. The signature surf shoe comes in black, white or black/white/orange – the colours of his beloved Snapper Rocks Board Riders Club on the Gold Coast.
Parkinson’s signature range is not just a renowned surfer putting pen to paper but he is also putting something back into the surf community by donating a percentage of sales to the Kustom – Parko programme.
“If I can give back to surfing through this program and give some kid an opportunity, where they may never have got it, I’ll be stoked!”
Parkinson wants to give promising young surfers, from deprived backgrounds, the opportunity to fulfil their potential by recommending young grommits to the programme committee who, without the funding of the Kustom – Parko programme, may never have had their talent recognised or believed in.
The places that Parko surfs really do leave an imprint in his heart. After taking part in the Tahiti pro, Joel along with Kustom donated $2,000 to the Teahupoo surf club in order to purchase learner surfboards for the local children.
